NBC TechnicianTokstret Radio Project first started in 1997 as a pilot radio program on the National Broadcasting Corporation of Papua New Guinea (NBCPNG). The program provided a forum for discussion of reproductive and sexual health issues and a clinical session enabling spontaneous feedback on health issues.

Discussion of sexual issues brought criticism from those who felt such issues should not be discussed publicly, while to majority of Papua New Guineans, tokstret brought empowerment and free medical advice right into their homes. Funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the focus of Tokstret Programme was "Empowerment of Women."

Inside BuildingSince the program's inception, it has established itself as a very informative program addressing real issues affecting ordinary Papua New Guineans and has contributed to breaking down of barriers and inhibitions around sexual health.

Today, our project focus covers Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH), as part of our contribution to informing and educating young people about reproductive and sexual health issues.

Since embarking on this project, the YWCA has played an important role in disseminating information to people in rural areas through the National Broadcasting Corporation of PNG.
