Disability in Developing Countries

The course aims to increase knowledge of the issues surrounding disability in developing countries; to provide skills for designing, implementing and evaluating disability programs; and to introduce the concepts and means of mainstreaming disability into development programs.
Content will include: current definitions of disability; causes and prevalence of common disabilities; skills important for working with the major impairment groups; issues related to equity, access, advocacy and prevention; design of disability programs; capacity building for disability programs; constraints and solutions for sustainability of disability programs; and project management issues related to disability programs.
The course is co-ordinated by Beth Fuller and will be taught by staff and associates of the collaborating institutions and by guest presenters.
Level: professional , post-graduate
Participants: health program planners, development workers and health practitioners; students of postgraduate courses in public health, international and community development, the allied health profession and nursing.
Tuition, fee, lodging: AUD1100, includes tuition and reading materials, but not travel, accommodation, health cover, visa and other expenses. For further information please contact the organisers.
